our embodied impulses
Our Embodied Impulses asks, “What is the body's role in reminding us of our multitudes and our reaches?” (re-)Connection to self and each other has been the groundwork of this endeavor and a foundation for creative process. Original movement scores guided our explorations through the interconnected nature of individual and collective restoration. On film, viewers witness the collective movement narratives born from a merging of our personal and private movement practices. The project became a work of identifying joy as an uncompromisable priority, recognizing our inherent worthiness as brown femmes existing in a white supremacist and patriarchal social context, and nurturing connection -to self, to each other, to our lineages, our environment. I send endless gratitude to the thought leaders and writers like bell hooks, Claudia Jones, Audre Lorde, Mariame Kaba, Bettina Love and Angela Davis to name a few who have created pathways toward social change and community care for generations to come, and whose leadership has been the foundation of this project’s beginnings and objectives.
